Life Skills Development

Building everyday skills for greater confidence, independence, and community participation.

At Pro Health Services, our Life Skill Development support helps participants build the practical skills they need for everyday living, greater independence, and active participation in the community. We provide tailored training and guidance that supports people to become more confident in managing daily routines, making decisions, and developing the skills needed to live as independently as possible.

Our approach is personalised to the individual. We take the time to understand each participant’s goals, strengths, challenges, and support needs, then provide training that is relevant, practical, and outcome-focused. Support can be delivered one-on-one or in group settings, depending on what best suits the participant and their goals. The NDIS recognises these supports as part of building independence and community participation.

What Is Life Skill Development?

Life Skill Development focuses on training and support that helps participants maintain, develop, or increase their capacity for everyday living. This may include practical daily living tasks, communication and social skills, travel training, problem-solving, and other skills that support independence at home and in the community. Under current NDIS pricing and support categories, this includes individual life skills development and training such as public transport training and developing skills for community, social, and recreational participation.

How Pro Health Services Can Help

We work closely with participants, families, carers, and support networks to build skills that are meaningful in everyday life. Our team listens carefully to understand personal goals and then provides practical support designed to improve confidence, independence, and participation.

This support may focus on day-to-day routines, communication, self-management, household responsibilities, decision-making, or preparing for greater independence in the future. Where appropriate, we can also support families through longer-term transitions, including changes in education settings or moving toward more independent living arrangements.

Supports May Include

Depending on the participant’s goals and support needs, Life Skill Development may include:

  • Showering, toileting, and personal care routines
  • Shopping for groceries and meal planning
  • Preparing simple and healthy meals
  • Household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and basic home organisation
  • Planning and using public transport
  • Building communication and social skills
  • Developing problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Learning routines that support greater independence at home and in the community
  • Support to manage everyday responsibilities with more confidence
  • Individual or group-based training depending on participant preference and goals

Our Training Approach

Our Life Skill Development support is centred around practical learning and real-world outcomes.

Understanding the participant
We begin by understanding the participant’s current abilities, daily challenges, goals, and areas where support can make the biggest difference.

Building confidence step by step
We focus on achievable progress so participants can gain confidence as they learn and apply new skills in daily life.

Supporting independence
Our training is designed to help participants build the capacity to do more for themselves, make informed choices, and participate more fully in everyday activities.

Flexible delivery
Supports can be provided individually or in groups, depending on the participant’s needs, preferences, and funded supports. The NDIS recognises both individual and group delivery for these kinds of skill-building services.

General Life Skills Development

With experience across disability support and care services, we understand that everyday tasks can become complex for people living with disability. That is why we provide training and development programs that focus on practical life skills, personal confidence, and long-term capability.

Our support may also help with interpersonal skills, social interaction, emotional regulation, confidence in public settings, and personal safety. Where needed, we can work with parents and families to support long-term development and major life transitions, especially when a participant is preparing for greater independence.

Why Choose Pro Health Services?

At Pro Health Services, we believe skill development should feel practical, respectful, and empowering. Our team provides participant-focused training that encourages progress at the individual’s pace while supporting confidence, independence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

We focus on real skills for real situations so participants can build capability not just in theory, but in the places and routines that matter most.
